Dateline: 1st January 2017. London, England.

Today the recently appointed Director General of the BBC, James Murdoch, unveiled the new, Tory government approved, BBC Charter. The Director General wished to thank the Culture Minister, Lachlan Murdoch, for his valuable input and thanked his father Rupert, who has just completed his first year as head of the Press Complaints Commission,Prime Minister Gove and Minister for Propaganda, Jeremy Hunt, for their support, saying " without their encouragement and support I would never have been able to destroy the greatest broadcasting corporation the world has ever seen and replace it with a mouthpiece for the government, spewing out right wing propaganda and lies 24/7". His father, Rupert, standing by his side, looking like a bespectacled tortoise in a suit, tried to weep, but, because reptiles do not have tear ducts and must keep their eyes moist by licking them with their tongue, failed.
James Murdoch went on to say " now this nest of left wing vipers, this verminous scourge of Trotskyites and bleeding heart liberals, this plague ridden den of communists and alternative lifestylers has been wiped from this earth, we can now provide the British Public with a service that will never again present the news in an impartial manner, challenge those in power, or bring corrupt, incompetent and self serving politicians to account, without fear or favour, but instead tell the truth in the fine traditions of great media outlets such as 'Der Sturmer' Fox News and  Fininvest, the media conglomerate owned by the recently appointed Italian Ambassador to the Court of St James, Silvio Berlusconi". As Mr Murdoch gave his frenzied and impassioned speech, he thumped the flag draped podium several times and stopped  mid speech, on several occasions, to adjust his armband.
After completion of the announcement the Director General left the rally flanked either side by a Praetorian guard made up of armed members of the Metropolitan Police's Tactical Assault Group.
Several protesters were arrested outside The News International Dome Arena and summarily executed and a small child, a slight blonde haired girl, shouted an obscenity at Minister of Propaganda Hunt. The small child was beaten to death by four members of the Metropolitan Police's Tactical Assault Group.

The End!

Labour Not Trusted On Economy. So What!

The ravings off the right wing press and the government, about the economy recovering is propaganda and nothing else. To get excited over an economy that is currently on life support is pathetic and desperate. Growth of 0.7% is not growth when wages are either decreasing or stagnating and inflation is hovering just below 3%. Britain is operating in a 'zombie economy' where a sudden increase in the inflation rate would soon lead to business closures, increased unemployment, increase welfare costs, repossessions and increased homelessness.
There are currently thousands of 'zombie businesses' who are only just managing to service their debt at current interest levels. An increase in interest rates would lead to the majority of these businesses going into liquidation, leading to thousands of unemployed.
Wages is the key to any successful economy. If wages are not increasing then the economy is not recovering. It does not matter what 'green shoots' are showing, how much the gross domestic product has increased or whether or not the Confederation of British Industry has reported improved optimism. As long as the cost of living rises, in the form of increased utility and fuel bills, larger food bills. large increases in train and bus fares and wages decrease or remain the same, then people will be poorer and the true performance measure of any economy is how well off people feel
The economy is not the Tory's strong point, it is their weakness. They are currently creating a housing bubble, youth employment continues to rise, the cost of living continues to rise while wages stagnate, more and more people are having to resort to food banks to feed their families and themselves and yet the Tory's crow about the economy as if it has returned to full health. It may have for the few! But it definitely hasn't for the many! This is what labour should be aggressively challenging the Tory's on. They should cut through all the crap being spouted by journalists who never step out of the Westminster village. They should vehemently  challenge the PR spin being printed by government rags such as The Sun, The Express, The Mail and The Telegraph and robustly refute the government friendly coverage given by News Internationals Sky and, sadly the BBC. At the moment what message Labour has, is weak and watery.
Labour needs to be the champion of the person in the street, who is trying to survive on zero contracts, reduced wages and increased costs. Not the wealthy middle and upper classes who have not been touched by the governments current austerity measures. The poor are punished while the wealthy profit.
The economy is not the only front on which to fight the next election. There are many other topics that are just as important to ordinary people and their everyday lives.

  • Establishing a living wage. A fair days wage for a fair days pay so workers do not have to fall back on welfare to survive.
  • Zero hour contracts.Ban them.
  • Rolling back the privatisation of the NHS.
  • Stopping the dismantling of the BBC. which is being carried out at the behest of Rupert Murdoch and News International.
  • Stop the profiteering of energy firms, utility companies, and rail franchises.Introduce a windfall tax.
  • Build a million homes.
  • Introduction of rent controls. This will stop landlords from profiting via Housing Benefit.
  • Increase regulation that maintains and keeps the economy safe.
  • Re-nationalise the railways.
  • Reintroduction of Surestart.
  • Highlight the current governments lack of 'life experience'.Ask the question " why, when the majority of the front bench have never had a proper job, yet they are all millionaires?" Inherited wealth lives people out of touch and uncaring.
  • Face up to the fact that the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were wrong and have a grown up conversation with the electorate that is free of nationalism and jingoism.
  • Admit that the banking crisis was down to poor regulation but people learn from their mistakes.
  • Don't be afraid to mention increased spending in schools, the police, hospitals and care.
  • Don't be afraid to talk about immigration positively. We don't all read the Daily Mail.
  • Offer a referendum on the EU.
  • Highlight the Tory's reliance on large donors. Make it dirty and make it hurt!

Labour needs a strong narrative that cuts through the crap, is easily understood by voters and shows they are on the side of families and the ordinary person, not big business and the wealthy. They must be out and proud about their left wing credentials and champion the poor and disenfranchised.
It was the progressive left that formed trade unions, achieved votes for women and universal suffrage, improved employment rights for workers, built the NHS, implemented the minimum wage, introduced maternity pay and built millions of houses for the poor and low paid. Not the reactionary right, all they do is tear down and destroy.
To win the next election, labour needs to stand toe to toe with the Tory's and start swinging. They need to shine a harsh light on the self interest driven Tory's, whose plans are nothing more than stealing from the poor to give to the rich.
Currently, labour are sleepwalking to election defeat. If they allow the Tory's to win the next election without so much as a bloody nose they will have betrayed the nation and be condemned for ever more as political cowards who betrayed their core political beliefs and didn't have the guts to stand up for the British people.
They're starting to carve the gravestone now " here lies the body of the labour party, once the party of the people, but now............."

The Tory's, The Public and Red Tape.

I think when the Tory's talk about removing the burden of red tape from businesses the public think the Tory's just want to relieve businesses from the task of filling out form 34567trfzz/99 or perhaps not be so particular about  paperwork. They don't. What the Tory's want to do is relieve businesses of the burden of providing sick pay, holiday pay, maternity leave and  paying the minimum wage to their employees.
That's the dream.
