The Tory Solution: Kill it!

The beaver.The next species due to be slaughtered by the Tories.

On the River Otter, in South West England, a family of wild beavers have set up home ( the picture above shows two of the three beaver kits recently born on the River Otter). The beaver, which was hunted to extinction in Britain, is a primary wildlife inhabitant and helps to create and promote a flourishing ecological system which is beneficial to all other inhabitants within that environment.

You would have thought the reintroduction of a species, which is so beneficial to the environment, would have been welcomed by all, but, unfortunately, the Tory government thinks differently. Because of pressure from a self interest group and, I daresay, a Tory donor, The Angling Trust, which is campaigning to have the beavers 'removed', the Tories have decided to REMOVE AND PROBABLY KILL THE FAMILY OF BEAVERS ( if you object to this policy please go to the 38degrees website and sign the petition).

This, normally at the behest of self interest groups, landowners, grouse shooting estates, and The Countryside Alliance, is the approach the Tories always take. If it's not badgers, it's bee's, if it's not bee's it's foxes, if it's not foxes, it's hare's, if it's not hares it's starlings ( nest and chicks), if it's not starlings, it's robins ( yes that right ROBINS!), if it's not robins, it's blowing buzzard nests, with the chicks inside, to smithereens with shotguns. Now it's beavers.

Beavers are a 'keystone species' who provide 'Eco services'. Their dams slow rivers down, which in turn reduce erosion and scouring, which in turn reduces the chances of flooding, as well as improving water quality by holding back silt.

The burrows, ditches and ponds they create provide habitats for other species.The branches they drag into the water provide safe havens for spawning fish as well as food and habitat for amphibians, freshwater fish and wildfowl. The trees they fell, thin out the canopy and allow sunlight in, which promotes growth and helps to create a flourishing Eco system. Paw prints and spraints of wild otters, another indigenous species almost hunted to extinction by the landowning gentry, have been spotted in the area, which points to a healthy environment.

The Angling Trust seems to think the land and rivers belongs to them. It doesn't. They scaremonger that the beavers will damage fish stocks and hamper migratory fish. They will not. Fish coped perfectly well hundreds of years ago when beavers were widespread. The beavers are beneficial to migratory fish and enhance fish stocks and just to be clear, BEAVERS DO NOT EAT FISH.

 Anglers believe they have the right to shoot beavers or have them exterminated because they consider them an invasive species, which is laughable when you consider the numbers of carp anglers that blight lakes and ponds across the land. I wonder how they would feel if someone decided to shoot or exterminate all carp species in Britain because they actually 'are' a non indigenous species.

This is another example of the Tories being bought. This time by a bunch of sport fisherman who have no concern for the environment they deplete and the damage they cause by leaving hooks and lines behind for wild fowl to gag on as well as rubbish and litter that degrades the environment.

Beavers are good for the environment and should be left in peace to help maintain a flourishing wildlife habitat for all to enjoy. Sport fisherman are selfish arrogant individuals whose predilection, it appears, is to inflict pain for fun and then leave all their crap behind for others to have to deal with.

And as for Tory politicians, well they are easily bought corporate whores who know the price of everything and the value of nothing.

Owen Paterson, until last week, was the Environment Secretary. He has since been sacked. He has blamed his sacking on the 'green blob', which apparently is a group that he claims contains environmentalists, Green Party politicians,wildlife campaigners, renewable energy companies etc, etc.
However I can put Mr Paterson right. HE WAS SACKED BECAUSE HE WAS CRAP AT HIS JOB (he turned up at flooding in the West Country without any wellington boots for chrissakes), AS WELL AS BEING ONE OF THOSE RIGHT WING CRACKPOT CLIMATE CHANGE DENIERS VOTERS DON'T LIKE.

The recent cabinet reshuffle being portrayed as a true reflection of British society. Apparently, according to the Tory Prime Minister, David Cameron, British society is 99% white, privately educated, and only 24% female.
