The Killing of Jo Cox.

The murderer of Jo Cox will be portrayed, predominately by the right wing media, for the purposes of political expediency, as a loner with mental health issues rather than a radicalised terrorist with neo-Nazi and white supremacist sympathies. The reason for this self-serving portrayal being, that they are concerned that her death will bolster the Remain vote in the upcoming European referendum, because he is a white indigenous British man, rather than a member of an ethnic minority with an Islamic background, and the possibility, that he committed this dreadful crime because of the noxious environment created through the current toxic political narrative driven by the right wing and centring on the European Union referendum. They will be desperate to disassociate themselves from someone who has committed such a dreadful crime yet is obviously sympathetic to and a member of, the Leave brigade. 

However, Thomas Mair has been radicalised. He didn’t log on to a website called ihatepeople.com or I’mgonnakillaleftie.co.uk, although it would appear he has probably visited a few white supremacist sites. But I doubt that is unusual among the brexiters. But his core radicalisation has been by the right wing hate preachers within the British media. Mainly white and upper or middle class, who print or spout never-ending, self-serving lies and propaganda about anybody who is not white and middle or upper class and about the European Union. They are also happy to spew their lies in the direction of the ‘little Englander’ class, who, in turn, are happy to lap up the warm vomit served, while wilfully refusing to engage their brain. He has been radicalised by crazed hatemongers like Katie Hopkins, who refers to migrants as cockroaches, and whose solution to the migrant crisis was to turn gunboats on dinghies and blow women and children out of the water. Presumably the body of a drowned child lying crumpled on a Greek beach didn’t satisfy her bloodlust for dead migrants.

Mair was radicalised by purveyors of bile, like Nigel Farage and the rest of his right wing, racist goon squad of hate, who are constantly stoking up hatred against immigrants and screaming that if we stay in Europe our daughters will be raped, our mothers will be murdered and our children will be forced to learn a foreign language and live under Sharia Law. He has been radicalised by members of the Leave campaign, purveyors of fear, like Gove, Johnson, Duncan-Smith, Grayling and Fox, whose only strategy has been to promote Britain as an island under siege from eurocrats, foreigners and immigrants and extolling us to take our country back from ‘them’.  “Britain first”. I hear them cry. “Death to traitors, freedom for Britain”. They scream, as racist posters are unfurled and comments made, that Julius Striecher, editor of Der Sturmer, would have been proud of. Posters and comments that instead of being condemned by the so-called mainstream Leave politicians, are tacitly condoned. Throw into the mix the racist bile thrown at Sadiq Khan during the London mayoralty elections and the abuse received by critics of Jeremy Corbyn, of which Jo Cox was a recipient, and you quickly create an environment that is not based on fact and reason, but hate, fury and a misinformed sense of injustice.

The racists, misogynists, homophobes and haters have always been here. They never went away. They didn’t magically change their views, they were driven back under their stones by right thinking and fair minded people who made it clear their views were unacceptable. Over the last five years a toxic environment has been regenerated, and now the haters feel enabled and are confident they can resurface and start, with the tacit approval and encouragement of certain politicians and areas of the media, poisoning society again with their bile and bitterness. The rise in hate crimes against the disabled and Muslims, anti-Semitism, and a resurgence of football hooliganism is not coincidental, it is symptomatic of a society being built on hatred of ‘others’.

The politicians and media commentators who stoke up this misinformed sense of injustice are no different to the Islamic fundamentalist hate preachers found on the internet supporting Islamic State and railing against the west, or the white supremacists attending training weekends, where they are taught how to use knives and guns, in readiness for the white uprising to reclaim their country. Or even a Russian government minister who congratulates Russian football yobs for their thuggish antics at a football tournament and condones criminality, as acts of nationalist pride, that were committed in the service of the Motherland.

All these people serve a common ideologue. They may not be dressed in Hugo Boss military uniforms, but instead they wear the everyman uniform of open neck shirt and jacket, or maybe a camel haired overcoat and brogues, or perhaps trainers and tee-shirts. Perhaps they will pose in a pub, holding a pint and a fag, or perhaps be photographed in a baseball cap. But they are all cut from the same cloth. Neo-fascism. Each and every one of them are fascist to their core and the currency of fascism is hate and division, and that is what they attempt to feed to the ignorant self-pitying, non-thinking masses, who are happy to blame their own failures in life by scapegoating others, rather than accept responsibility for their own choices, their own shortcomings, and their cowardice for not confronting the true reasons their lives have not turned out as they had hoped. Bullies will always punch downwards, they are cowardly and gutless, and the current contaminated environment provides bullies with a sense of deluded self-justification for doing just that.

As previously stated, the killer of Jo Cox will be bracketed as a loner with mental health issues by the right wing press and the Brexiteers, because they will be desperate to hide his true motives and, more importantly, who it was that fed Mair this diet of hate and bile on a daily basis which eventually led him to commit this heinous act. But there is no doubt, by promoting this foul, putrid, and now deadly brew, of nationalism, nostalgia and anti-intellectualism, the blood of Jo Cox is dripping from the hands of these people. As a white indigenous Brit, I am ashamed at the disgusting antics being perpetrated and the lies being spoken by these people. This is not the Britain of Churchill, Wilberforce, Shakespeare and Paine, that I love. It is the Britain that would have been created if people like Oswald Mosley, The Earl of Halifax, A.K Chesterton and John Tyndall had been allowed to flourish.

Unfortunately for Jo Cox she was a perfect storm for the hate filled right wingers. She was a woman. She was a successful politician and mother. She worked for a charity helping that demonised minority, refugees. She was, in the eyes of the self-involved right wingers, a do gooder, a bleeding heart liberal who had the temerity to be concerned by the plight of the weak, the poor, the disenfranchise and the vulnerable around the world. If you’re a right winger, then having these qualities is tantamount to a crime against humanity. And of course finally, she was a principled left wing politician with a social conscience, and if you’re a toxic, swivelled eyed hate preacher on dog whistle radio, or a scaremongering, bile filled brexiteer, pretending that leaving Europe has nothing to do with creating the fascist utopia you first drew up plans for, on the back of a Rizla, in the common room of some private school in middle England, or a journalist/editor/owner on a right wing fear mongering and poisonous rag, masquerading as a newspaper, whose moral compassed ceased functioning over thirty years ago, then being principled and left wing, with a social conscience, in your spiteful, noxious and pestilential world, is unforgivable.

I know that this article will be met with shrill indignation from certain denizens of one area of the political spectrum, who’ll accuse me of politicising a tragic death. But there are truths and there are inconvenient truths and the comments made within this article fall into the latter. And to demonstrate how hypocritical those accusations would be, I will give you this scenario. A person supporting the Leave campaign is murdered by an immigrant or a Muslim. Do you think the Brexiteers would remain silent? Or would they attempt to capitalise on the situation? The answer to those two questions is No to the first question, and Yes to the second question. It is laughable that the people who whine and complain about political correctness and not being able to speak freely, are always the same people who scream down somebody who says something that they disagree with or is not in their own interests. These people inhabit a swamp of hypocrisy of their own making.

So, fascists, you can keep your self-serving manufactured outrage to yourself. I’m not interested.
